Well to my surprise watching Hamlet the movie only encouraged my interpretations, although Hamlet was nothing like i had imagined him to look like. I didnt picture him hanving fake platinum blonde hair, or the old King Hamlet with neon blue eyes. Rather then that i think it was a pretty accurate depiction of the play. It's difficult sometimes to understand a play especially when it shakespeare. So when i saw the movie alot of things i had earlier thought was confusing had made alot more sense. Aother reason i thought it depicted the play well was that it had the whole entire script and characters in the play instead of cutting major parts out to make the movie shorter. The movie was a staggering four hours long but i got to see every single scene in the play. All of the dialect in the movie came direcly from the play. Overall i think it was a well made movie and it only encourages interpretations.

I agree. The Keneth Branaugh version went right along with the play. I loved how they didn't leave a line out and kept it the length that it was. I watched the Ethan Hawk version of Hamlet over the Thanksgiving break and was not impressed. It was shortened a lot and in turn lost a lot of its effectiveness. It was far less dramatic and lost the level of maddness that Hamlet reaches. If Shakespeare was around today he probably would have agreed with both of us.
Kenneth Branaguh is really brillant, he does alot of Shakespeare movies. I think he make the movie really effective and it appealed to me alot. I like how Hamlet was more of a human being instead of being depressed through out the whole play. He played with alot of feelings through out the plays, and the words support that. the play is supposed to be focused on human feelings and thoughts, making it seem real.
I think that the Branagh version was the best out of the two i have seen and then the other 2 scenes that we watched in class. The other version I watched didn't use all of the script but was still effective. Like you, I cant get over hamlet's appearance in the Branagh version...his mustache and hair bugged me the whole time. His appearance in the version I watched was better, but after watching the video in class i cannot picture him any other way.
